There are several examples this tree  growing next to the Belalong Canopy Walkway. It has been provisionally identified as Alantospermum borneense IRVINGACEAE.  The family ID  is based on recent DNA studies.

Previously Allantospermum borneense has been classified as  SIMAROUBIACEAE  (Tree Flora of Sabah and Sarawak Vol.01 1996. Pg.427) and in the IXONANTHACEAE (LaFrankie 2010. Trees of Tropical Asia. Pg. 296)

The flowers have  3 sepals , 5 petals,  and 5 stamens.   The leaf is simple, entire  and grows in whorls. The based of the petiole is swollen and  the petiole has a deep groove on the upper surface.

This photo shows an unripe fruit  (middle bottom)  with 5 longitudinal swellings. An open ripe fruit is just above. According to the literature  A. borneense  fruit produce  5 shiny round black seeds with an aril indicating dispersal by bulbuls and similar sized birds.
