This Koompasia malaccensis tree grows on the Right Hand Side (RHS) of the Belalong Canopy Walkway between the second and third towers. However unlike the Koompasia malaccensis tree which grows immediately opposite  on the LHS  of the walkway the trunk is reddish not pale grey.

The top layer of this Koompasia malaccensis  tree bark is pale grey but flakes of bark have been eaten by squirrels  exposing the reddish bark below without damaging the tree. As yet we do not know what species of squirrel is eating the bark but it would be very interesting to find out !

Koompasia species .jpg
This illustration shows the clear differences  in the leaves of  the two Koompasia species. In addition Koompasia excelsa is a much taller tree up to 80 m in height whilst Koompasia malaccensis  normally only grows to canopy level c. 40m in height.
